Anytime we set out to do something new, especially if we are unfamiliar with whatever it is, it can feel a little overwhelming. The feeling of being overwhelmed along with the self-doubt that can often come with it leads to us not being able to achieve what we set out to do. So, how can you ensure that these feelings don’t get to you, eliminating your chances for success? Your mindset is the key factor here. It can either make or break it.
What does having the right mindset look like?
This, of course, is going to be up to you specifically. There are a lot of best practices out there when it comes to achieving the perfect mindset for whatever you’re trying to do. In short, you should be thinking positively and realistically. Obviously, a goal of making $1 million dollars off of your brand new blog in the next week probably isn’t realistic. If you can achieve that, then you need to tell me what you’re doing LOL.
If you think positively, positive things will tend to come your way. Thinking negatively tends to bring negative things your way. Now, no matter what your goal happens to be, you need to be confident in your abilities to achieve it. For example, if weight loss is your goal and you’re constantly thinking about how you’re not seeing the results you want and how it’s never going to work, odds are that will end up being the case. You’ll most likely get discouraged and probably stop doing what you’re doing and be right back where you started.
On the opposite end of that, being able to identify that while you might not be seeing results right this second, with consistency you’ll get the results you want, can have a dramatic impact on your overall success. Having that positive outlook keeps you motivated and eager to keep going. You’ve got your end goal in sight and know exactly what you need to do to get there. This positive outlook also gives you the ability to see when and where you need to adjust in order to be better able to achieve your end goal. Like I said, your mindset is everything when it comes to whether you’re going to make or break it.
What can you do to keep your mindset positive?
First things first, make sure that you’re setting realistic goals for yourself. If your end goal is something outrageous like I mentioned before, you will be discouraged in no time. Secondly, train your brain! Shut out the negative thoughts and “what ifs.” You need to be in control of your thoughts, otherwise, your thoughts are going to control you and your success. If that’s all that you can think about, your mind is going to be consumed by negativity and you will get nowhere. Learn to focus on the good and be more of an optimist. Don’t let the hiccups bring you down!
Lastly, change the way you think about the end result and take the word “if” out of your vocabulary. Instead of saying, “I will be able to quit my job to work at home full-time IF I build a large social following.” you should be saying “I will be able to quit my job to work at home full-time WHEN I build a large social following.” It is such a simple tweak to make, but I promise you that it makes a HUGE difference. Don’t knock it ’til you try it!
Make or break it, the choice is yours.
Your success is entirely up to you. Nobody else. If it’s something that you want badly enough, you will put in the work and get your mind in the right place. It may seem difficult at first particularly if you’re not used to thinking this way, but it gets easier just like any other good habit. This is the only way you will be able to see the level of success that you’re looking for.
