First things first, I’m Audrey. I’ve always been super passionate about writing since I was a kid. My first grade teacher told my parents that I was going to be a writer when I grew up and it’s something that has stuck with me over the years. I’ve always wanted to get into writing because I’ve seen the impact that it can have on people. I spent a good majority of my time growing up just reading anything and everything I could get my hands on. What’s the first story that pops into my head when I think about my childhood? Harry Potter of course… I might be a little nerdy…. don’t judge. Pretty sure my letter got lost…
Anyway, I’m currently working in banking at a large financial institution as a branch manager. The opportunities for growth are definitely there, I have a comfortable income, and it offers great benefits. What more could I ask for? A work/life balance, setting my own schedule, flexibility, setting my own goals… I’m looking for all these things and more.
Over the last few months I’ve really started doing my research. I’ve learned a lot when it comes to all of the different possibilities for making money from home and the whole side hustle thing. The first step is usually starting a blog and I have a few goals in mind for this baby.
Numero uno: To write about whatever I want.
Everybody goes on and on about how you have to narrow yourself down to a specific niche when you start thinking about making a living off of blogging… but what if I don’t want to write about that next week? That’s why I decided that while there may be a few things in particular that I’ll write about for the most part, I’m not going to narrow it down so much that I might stop enjoying it. So I’m just going to write about whatever tickles my fancy and see how that works.
Number two: To help people
I know I said that I’m going to write whatever I want, but I want there to be a purpose behind every post. I want to make an impact. Whether I help somebody create and stick to a budget or give them a really kick-ass dinner recipe, either way that’s making an impact in my book. That’s another reason I feel that it’s important not to just latch on and stick to one topic.
Number three: Help with my severe procrastination problems…
Maybe it’s the severe lack of a work/life balance, but when I finally do get home for the day, I go straight to my computer or my phone. Maybe do a little pinning on Pinterest. Pretty much anything and everything aside from what I really should be doing… like cleaning my kitchen, doing the laundry, or maybe the dishes. Yeah, I’m terrible I know. So, part of the reason for this blog is to help me get away from those bad habits. It’s something that I’ve committed to doing. I’ll be setting specific times and dates when I need to publish.
Aaaand number four: Transition into the life of self-employment through monetizing this bad boy.
That’s the biggest and probably most challenging piece. The biggest thing I think is to be completely in charge of my life and be able to do what I want when I want to do it. I still have a lot of research to do when it comes to turning this into a money maker. For now I’m just going to have fun with it and see where it takes me!
